GLOBAL RUNNING DAY – YOU’RE IN

Happy Global Running Day!

I love celebrating this sport, I hope it can continue to flourish on the every level, but more than that I love celebrating this community. To me they are one and the same. That’s why running matters, it’s a connection to ourselves and each other. In its best form its pure community and healthy competition.

In the face of what’s going down every day. Running might be simple, or trivial, but it’s also a powerful community builder. I have seen it bring people together that might have otherwise never crossed paths, and it’s certainly opened my mind and circle. Sometimes I find myself sharing intimate details of my life over an email with someone across the country… someone I only met through running and social media.

Often in times of darkness, to keep getting out of bed, to keep my head up looking for ways to keep fighting the good fight, self care is vital and running is self care. It’s lacing up my shoes and meditating to my footsteps, or talking to myself, or listening to someone else’s point of view, or just letting my mind go blank ticking seconds and splits off. I’m guessing you know just what I’m talking about.

Maybe it’s my own feedback loop, but recently I’ve had so many stories snag at me about runners not feeling fully accepted in the community. It’s makes me sad and it makes me pause and examine myself. Am I playing a role unconsciously in making anyone feel unwelcome? I want you to know you can run with me. And don't worry, everyone has imposter syndrome at some point. Definitely me included.

No matter what distance you love, size you wear, brand you buy, shoes you own, times you run, side of the aisle you sit, #sportsbrasquad or long sleeves for life… you’re in.  And you can run with me if you want to.
